Dear Minnesota State RB Tourney Participant,
I hope your past weekend experience at the state tourney was successful. I know from the years I’ve been involved with racquetball, we (players) often don’t play up to the level of our expectations. I would honestly conclude that when player’s results don’t meet up with their expectations, the reason has much more to due with the each player’s lack of a complete understanding of racquetball rather than a lack of talent.
I know in my case, when I left Minnesota and went to San Diego to try to get really good, I thought I knew how to play racquetball inside and out. But, when I started to play Brumfield, Keeley, etc., I quickly found out there was a complete understanding of racquetball that I didn’t have a clue about. I quickly threw my ego out, adopted this much better plan and became a much better player. For many years since that experience, I’ve continued to pass this message along to players so they can genuinely improve their game.
We’re going to start the process of trying to improve the quality of play in Minnesota and our first “go at it” will be very soon (April 3rd) at the Lifetime Fitness in Fridley (Moore Lake). It will be a 4 hour clinic with a lot of play (working on the strategy of how to play, serving, return of serve, center court play, playing off left-up shots, offensive shot selection, ceiling strategy, how to practice and strokes). It’s obviously not the length of a full weekend camp, but for the price and what you’ll get; it’s a great deal for $50.00 We will continue to have a lot more learning opportunities in the future, but this 4 hour clinic will be a great way to start the process. If you have a desire to get better; come, it will be well worth your time.
I hope all of you reach your racquetball goals. Good luck.
Steve Strandemo
